There’s another reason why I have a hard time taking Cruise seriously in action movies... because he is short. Still, he CAN turn in a good performance (I thought he was fantastic as a damaged, narcissistic motivational speaker in “Magnolia”).
When I was in my early 20s I worked in a sporting goods store. A Navy SEAL came in one day (he was in his dress white with his SEAL insignia) to buy a swimsuit. I guess he was no taller than 5’7”.
I’ve heard people say that before, and I’ve never gotten it.
According to the Internet, he’s 5ft. 7 in. That makes him two inches taller than Alan Ladd, James Cagney and Audie Murphy. He’s the same height as Al Pacino and George Raft, and, depending on which source you believe, just one or two inches shorter than Humphrey Bogart. All of those men played convincing tough guys.
(I thought he was fantastic as a damaged, narcissistic motivational speaker in Magnolia).
Read the best-selling documentary expose books on Scientology released the past couple years. You may conclude that Cruise was not so much acting in Magnolia as he was channeling the inner Cruise.
