Officials at a Northern California battery company said Wednesday they believe a battery they manufacture was used in the Boston Marathon bombing.
Benjamin Mull, spokesman for Fremont-based Tenergy Corp., said that based on crime scene photos that have appeared online, the company believes one of its nickel-metal hydride batteries was used to make the bombs that detonated Monday near the marathon’s finish line, killing three people and wounding more than 180.
The company has reached out to Boston police and the FBI, but hasn’t heard directly from investigators, Mull said.
The company said the 1.25-volt battery seen in the photos is sold in retail outlets and is frequently used by hobbyists for various toys, including radio-controlled cars and trucks.

....I think this company saw a chance for some free advertising.
When I saw the photo of the battery, I thought they may have been foreign..I’ve never seen them before, so I looked them up. I find it stunning that they’ve offered to help and said they haven’t heard back yet. I’m sure they’ve got ways to trace...lot/date code..etc.
I don’t think anyone would be proud of that. Just being associated is bad business.

That does it!! Henceforth, batteries (ESPECIALLY those from northern California) and pressure cookers should be registered with the federal government and the purchasers of these products should have to face a universal background check!!!

Seriously, this is a out-from-left-field PR nightmare for a company. Even though anyone with a brain will CONSCIOUSLY know that the company was totally unrelated and blameless for this, their favorability numbers will drop like a brick for subconscious reasons. There are consulting companies hat specialize in crisis/damage control, and I hope that Tenergy has someone on their Rolodex. They make good batteries, you can find them in lot of electronic equipment.
Well it’s obvious we need to ban them too.
If your brand is visibly connected to an evil event, if people watch the news and see your packaging and logo, you must publicly respond.
Fremont is also the home of Solyndra. FWIW...

FAGOR, A Spanish company, makes the pressure cooker cited in the news articles. Their name is clearly shown on the base of every cooker.
