I’m still using XP on my desktop and laptop at home. For that matter, I’m using XP at work too.
The PCs from 3 or 4 years ago are still “good enough”.
I like Windows 8 a lot. It took me a couple of days to train myself, but now I hate going back. ....i am a developer and have to term into XP and windows 7 boxes. I have also worked on Macs.
win 8 is my favorite.
Try blaming the fact that the current sales reflect the number of people that actually WORK at a computer. If you spend your day with Word, Excel, and Project open, you are probably going to want a desktop and two large screens (like the one I'm typing this on).
On the other hand, if most of your computer use is fundamentally PLAY, why not go to a tablet or even a smart phone. Nobody needs two 23” monitors to check what some imbecile celebrity just tweeted.
No, that thing sucked. Their first foray into making crappy operating systems.
This guy is an idiot. You know what they aren’t counting into this #? Tablets that run windows 8. Duh...that’s the market they are trying to move into.
I like windows. I’m looking out one right now. And until they find a way to modify my eyeballs and shrink my fingers, I’ll keep my PC too.
Yep blame the tablet which also runs windows 8. So it’s not windows that’s over it’s the desktop PC that is over.
What?!? You think Microsoft would ever willingly go down that road?
CA....
“This is Microsoft we’re talking about. As soon as something is stable they move to a whole new version because they think you will have to buy it.”
They are a business. What are they supposed to do, just keep stroking some decade-old OS forever?
They didnt make Windows as a hobby.
I think MS understands that it will probably be at least a year or two before it bears fruit, but they had to do something to get into the tablet game......The key will be if the Enterprise adapts Windows Tablets to replace the PCs, that can run the same software on the PCs.....if so, then Microsoft is far from dead.
>>Yeeahhh, I’ve been reading that prediction every year since 1980...
Maybe not since 1980, but I’ve been reading the same predictions. But, I’ve never seen lifelong PC fans moving to Mac in droves as I’m seeing since Win 8 came out. The only people who (say that they) like Win 8 are people who own MS stock.
The idea of a single interface for different devices is idiotic.
Windows 8 should have the Metro UI on tablets and smartphones, and the Aero UI on PCs.
They even put the Metro UI on Windows *Server*, for crying out loud.
all support ends for XP in less than a year.
I was merely pointing out that stability is not their goal.
You are admitting that your stability comment was ludicrous.
Windows 8 is n the Windows Me and Vista camp.
Developers already offer Windows 8 shells to get rid of the interface.
“But, Ive never seen lifelong PC fans moving to Mac in droves as Im seeing since Win 8 came out. “
But then again despite all of these supposed “I hate Windows 8” people going to Macs because Windows 8 is too different from Windows 7 to the point where they go to a platform...that looks nothing like Windows 7, Mac sales have slumped too.
The only people that have done better seems to be Lenovo.
Wait a second, are you saying this 14% drop is only counting desktops?
If that's the case then this is an overcooked goose of a story.
