I live in Vegas, and have for 30+ years. I have seen the best and the worst of “Used Car Salesmen.” It would seem to me that most dealers/mechanics here are out for the Almighty Dollar, and that’s it. They don’t care if they have sold you a lemon because they have the commission.
Repair/tire shops are the same way. I can’t even count the number of shops that have been shut down by the state because of illegal or unethical practices that have hurt the consumer. Mostly, single females.
Bear in mind, this is a military/college town. The two seem to spell profits for the ne’er-do-wells and caution on the part of the “newbie to the Valley.”
It sucks, but it’s true.
Looks good!
And I’m off to bed...My body is tired and my mind is following closely behind.
Ta, all...
Depends if someone is dumb enough to wander into our sights and offer themselves up to the Undead.
But the only way you would be able to improve your gas mileage would be to drive more slowly. (And we know that won't happen!)
Gas mileage is not a huge issue for me really.
The Subaru takes regular fuel instead of premium so it will be cheaper.
The first two you can live with as long as it isn't too egregious. The last one is a pain in the butt because you have to remove the thermostat to keep it from overheating, that solution may or may not allow you to drive any appreciable distance because those gases have to go somewhere and they blow out the vent into the overflow tank and blow your overflow tank dry so you are constantly topping off the radiator to keep form overheating due to low coolant, and in winter you freeze..
Usually shows up in vehicles with over 150 thou miles.
Just my input (have had two Subaru's, present one has the last named issue...)
Other than that, they're OK... ;-)
My guy replaced the head gasket on the Neon last year. I’ll keep an eye out for it.
Head gasket on a four-cylinder is a minor inconvenience compared to a V-six. It can be the difference between salvaging the vehicle and deep-sixing it.
Your mechanic has to have a real fondness for you for that not to make a difference, but it could happen.
He does that kind of thing for fun. This man bought a truck that didn’t run from a junkyard, got it running in the parking lot, and drove it back a week later for more replacement parts.
The only (safe) way to reward a guy like that is to get him more tools. (Toys)
Maybe a wire-feed welder. They’re not expensive, but can craft true art in the proper hands.
I did that once. I had a full-sized van I was holding out for $3000. The dealer would only give me $2500. I chose to sell it myself. On the way home the transmission began to slip.
After I fixed the tranny and sold the van I think I got $2500. If I had just let the dealer have the headache...
I actually paid him $1100 to rebuild the top half of my engine.
It’s you!
I think it’s fantastic. It has a nice 2.5 liter engine in it and power windows and leather. Also four seats and room for several people in the bed.
By tomorrow I’ll know if USAA feels like giving me a loan or not. I don’t know why they wouldn’t.
If not the dealership will give me a good rate. I’m just seeing if USAA will offer a better one or not.
It’s always a good idea to go with a stable bank. If they’d like us to back you, just let me know. We have a long credit history with them. As NFCU, too.
I don’t want to give everyone the brush-off, but I have stuff to put away.
