OMG !!!! I’ve been having a fight on FB for months with the friend of a friend about Sinatra, and he and his friends are going beserk that I dared to criticize him. One of them even said, “Cite one authority who sys that Sinatra can’t sing” - and I answered that even if I had the names of twenty people who agreed with me, I wouldn’t list them because I don’t make my judgements based on consensus - I do it based on my hear - he has a harsh tone and sings flat. I call his his style “all delivery, no voice.”

Sinatra doesn't sound flat or harsh on Oh, What a Beautiful Morning!. Since the instrumentalists were on strike at the time, no instruments are used--he had only the Bobby Tucker Singers to back him up. Nonetheless, it was a smash hit in the fall of 1943, and it's one of my favorite songs from that year.

In the mid 80s I had an audio spectrum analyzer. I put Sinatra’s voice on it as opposed to his band. He sang off-key.....all the time on song after song.

I had the recordings and graphic printouts for all of the world to see. Then, I had a house fire. The fire destroyed all of the ‘evidence’.

You’re absolutely right about that, and if you judge him as a musician, he’s subpar. Still, I think he was a good entertainer, and sometimes that is all you need.

The Beatles - nothing but a Boy Band that turned into acid heads and played songs like “Yellow Submarine”

Bruce Springsteen - his early stuff like “Rosalita” & “Born to Run” are good songs, but he turned into a depressing, boring, disaffected leftie.
