HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) A Huntington Beach police officer shot and killed a man who reportedly aimed a gun at him, which was later determined to be a fake weapon.
Police responded to a call around 4:30 p.m. Thursday from the owner of Buon Gusto Italian Cuisine & Deli who said the suspect was screaming and threatening a woman near a dumpster behind the eatery at 4911 Warner Avenue.
The owner said the man then threatened him with what he thought was a gun when he approached the couple.
Authorities later confronted the suspect and his girlfriend in a residential neighborhood near Hoskins Lane and Milo Drive.
The suspect produced a handgun. Like I said, we later determined it to be a replica handgun, and the officer fired and killed the suspect, said Sgt. Mitch OBrien of the Huntington Beach Police Department.
A witness said, The police told him to put down his gun and he wouldnt so they shot him.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer was not injured.
Police questioned the suspects girlfriend. She was later released.
The investigation is ongoing.
When a police officer tells you to do something, best you do it.
I'm not a fan of police but they have 100% authority to shoot someone pointing a gun at them. After this their authority shrinks.
I know I would.
You have to find a replica surgeon to remove the replica bullets. That might be easier next year when we have a replica health care system.
note to self do not carry prop gun.
Them there Journalism Degrees must not require an English Composition Class as a Prerequisite.
The Seventeenth Century Lesbian History Class probably replaced it.
You can carry one as long as you drop it when a cop tells you to.
The cop was right in this case.
I have 2 replica guns I shoot all the time, and the .451 inch balls that come out of them at 900+ fps make big holes in things too! (1858 New Army Remington’s)
Would have never figured that out without help...
They told him to put the gun down, but he "allegedly" pointed it at one of the deputies. One emptied his full magazine into him, including one to the head. The guy only had use of one arm and hand.
Yeah....Sheeesh! what they do to fill column inches.
Sounds like the perp failed the IQ Test.
Don’t bring a replica gun to a real gun fight.
The title says that the cop used a fake gun and killed a guy.
I was never sure if hbpd had real guns.

Post of the Day!
That may be a bb gun, but in CA they’re supposed to have an orange do-job on the end.
Just saying.
Never bring a replica gun to a gun fight.
