Got this for $350 when taxes are included. Has Windows 8. I have not opened the box yet and will wait until Sunday to see if there isn't some thing better out there at Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot etc...

So what do freepers think of this model? The CPU comes in at above 2100 on CPU benchmark site and I will be adding 4gb memory soon to make 8gb. This cpu is Ivy Bridge which is the latest

BTW, you can also find “Control Panel” in the “Start Screen” after you do the “right click” on the “Start” screen and click on the “All Apps” icon. There you will find the Control Panel under “Windows System”.

I got my wife the C885D-S505 at Best Buy for $280. It sounds pretty comparable and since all she wants if for is web surfing and Office 2010 it more than meets her needs. Might want to wander over there and check it out. Might save a couple of bucks.

Also, the “Start” screen is highly customizable, which means you can organize it the way you want, and put anything you want in it, so that you don’t have to go searching for it when in desktop mode.

You can, for example, put your preferred browser, say Firefox, in the start screen, by “right clicking” the icon in the desktop, and an options menu opens up, and within it is the option to “pin to Start”, which will make that program or app, part of the Start screen. You can actually do the same for any file, such as a word file, and it will become part of your Start screen. That’s a quick way of getting to a file or a program without having to search for it in desktop, or drilling down menu after menu to get at the file.

Getting rid of the “stupid” app screen is simple: press the “Windows” button on your keyboard, and it goes back to the “regular” Start screen, and pressing the “windows” button again will take you to your desktop (if that’s where you were last time.

Getting rid of the “stupid

I am not a visual person I guess. When I get a page full of icons I have a hard time finding anything. I a can scan a list but pictures are confusing to me. I expect some may be form brain damage and some may be ADD or something. Learning some new things can become quite confusing. I have a high mechanical ability and have had over 50 courses in electronics.

For the most part, and in reality, is not about learning something new, but a new way of doing the same things you did in the past. And after getting used to the new way, you might wonder why things weren’t done that way to begin with (the answer to that is that, touch screens demand new ways, and many new benefits were introduced along the way).
