Best bet I've found in recent years are those packed by/in Thailand. That's the old Russian fishing fleet ~ they bought it and refurbished it, brought everything up to modern standards.
Still the same brand names you always found ~ but now there are varieties of hot sauce.

I’ve always wondered how they get those sardines so neatly packed into the can.
Go ahead, remove them without breaking and then put them back as you found them.

Now were talking. Tempura sardines or dried sardines as Shishamo. Full of eggs and yummy.

Hi Joe,
Yes, but the tin can can be a little on the chewy side.

I do not recommend if you get Gout attacks. They will give you one...I love anchovies on my Greek salads. I get them rolled up with a caper on the middle.

Never tried it on spaghetti noodles. I always used the flat spiral type.
Seasoned right using the sardines packed in tomato sauce and adding maranara sauce they are great. But most people tell me they are very smelly. Never bothered me.

I don’t dislike sardines, but rarely eat them because I never seem to be in the mood for them. I think that would change if I knew the best ways to prepare and serve them, and which canneries put out the best ones. They were talking about this on the Food Channel a while back. I took notes and was all exited about trying them again but I let it slide and gradually lost my enthusiasm. Also doesn’t help that wifey hates most seafood. Calls lobster “giant sea cockroaches.”
