New Orleans, LA - A gruesome pit bull attack on Wednesday in the New Orleans, Louisiana area resulted in the victim losing both arms, an eye, an ear, and a part of her scalp. Three of the adult dogs attacked 54-year-old Linda Henry in her home where she lived with the dogs owner, her boyfriend. When Westwego police officers responded to the call, all four adult pit bulls attacked or lunged at them, forcing the officers to shoot them. A litter of puppies was also removed from the home.
As of Thursday, the victim was still reported hospitalized in critical condition.
Its the worst dog bite Ive ever seen in 25 years of police work, said Westwego Police Chief Dwayne Munch.
It was the second bold attack by pit bulls on unsuspecting victims in only four days. An attack on Sunday, which was captured on surveillance video, showed a pit bull running across an intersection in the Bronx in New York City in order to strike and maul a little girl described in different reports as being age four or age six.
Several nearby men rushed in to pull the dog off the tiny child, and she reportedly survived with only minor injuries.
You can watch that video below, but be warned. Its disturbing and not least because the reporter was told that the owner of the dog was ticketed but will be allowed to keep the animal.

Pit bulls = Dogs of Peace. /sarc
Not gonna watch the video.
Thought this as a Prosecutor, think it now. They should be banned.
Unlike guns, pit bulls can kill on their own.
For the most part, the dogs that attack are usually owned by idiots.
Me neither; however, I have a working theory about Pit Bulls. Their jaws are better for chomping than, say the longer jaws of other Canids. But what sets them off?
Dogs, I've discovered, have kidney stones just like humans. When any dog is in pain from an injury, they will biteand a kidney stone attack is painful, indeed.
Keeping an ample amount of water available for the dog is a necessity to prevent kidney stones. IMHO, most of these Pit Bull owners don't qualify as responsible owners who would maintain a permanent water supply for their Pit Bull.
Poor woman, God help her.
I’m with you. Not gonna watch.
LOL on the /s. Point taken. LOL
It’s certainly a possibility to explain the pit bulls that suddenly turn.
Pit bulls have been given a bad rap. They can be sweet and lovable dogs and can make good family pets.
No one ever points the fingers at bad and irresponsible dog owners.
For the most part, the dogs that attack are usually owned by idiots.
Amen.
Not only is the owner an idiot, so are the cops.
This happened in the Bronx. Who wants to bet that there is no leash law in the Bronx?
So here is a dog loose in the Bronx, not on a leash as required by law, runs across an intersection to bite a child.
A clear demonstration that the owner is not competent to own a dog of any kind.
He should be prosecuted.
You have to socialize and train a dog to make it loyal and good-natured.
If you can’t put in the time to do it, you’re better off owning a cat.
I would require owners of certain breeds to post a bond for the good behavior of their dogs.
They have a pit bull that they walk in the park. The wife often rides her bike with her pit bull leading on a leash (I've been waiting for the magic moment when the pit bull takes off and drags her skinny @ss down the street for a hundred yards).
Anyway, one day we were walking in the park and had just come off a bridge into a wooded area and encountered the pit bull owner walking towards us with the pitbull off the leash. I immediately told her to get her dog on a leash and that she was violated Pa law which requires all dogs to be on a leash in public.
The next day was a trip to Cabela's.
Its true - any dog can be vicious and aggressive at the hands of an abusive, cruel or irresponsible dog owner.
People like to blame the dogs! None of these stories examine the owner and how he raised the animal. It all begins and ends with people.
You need to give a dog training, direction and company. If you’re not prepared to put in the work, you’ll get a badly-behaved dog.
No matter what breed you own, owning a dog will always be a full time job.
The problem with pit bulls probably is dumb, careless and even cruel owners. However, with any of these, they are basically a loaded weapon with the safety off.
If I spoil and do not train my shetland sheepdog or golden retriever, the worst that is likely to happen is that they will knock someone over or bark their fool heads off.
Cesar Milan calls them gladiator dogs and I think he is right. They have a tremendous amount of courage, loyalty, and physical ability - but if it is not channeled, with socialization and obedience done well, they are dangerous.
And, I do believe there are more dumb or careless dog owners than smart ones - present writer included in the overly permissive category.
They are not taking the dog away when it ran across the street to attack the little girl. The mind boggles.
Exactly!
There are sweet and affectionate pit bulls. That’s not to say they’re a dog for every one. With herding/working dogs, they require a lot of training and you need to give them an outlet to channel their prey drives in a safe and responsible manner for them to be happy and devoted dogs.
Like I said, if that’s too much work, get yourself a cat or a lap dog that won’t be too demanding.
