"I disrepect all silicon bugs I run across.
Hideous things that they are."

Well, them, yeah. Don't blame you.

But I thought the invading creatures in "The Host" were rendered quite well, as beautiful and delicate monsters-that-take-over-your-body-and-banish-your-mind-to-nothingness.

Just saying.

The Silicon Bugs, it occurs to me, are the equivalents in our future universe (mutual future, futual), of Larry Niven's Kzinti. A Kzin Warrior is an awesome fighting individual, emphasis on the individual. As a group, there's always so much infighting among them that their individual qualitice are muted.

Silicon Bugs are more like living tanks. Not exactly organic, as we think of it, since their metabolism is based on Silicon, but darn difficult as a military opponent. I mean, they managed to survive for centuries, after crashing on Venus. for crying out loud!

Admittedly, they had to modify their own body forms to do it, but even that is something we would never have been able to do.

I just hope we never run into their original phenotype somewhere out there. They could be even more advanced!

And an opportunity for a tag-line update.

Something that is a cross between a coconut crab, hermit crab, and a particularly angry car with armor plating would ruin your day.
