Scott said deer won't jump over a wall if they can't see what's on the other side. That's why the stone.
Would help to have a northern climate like theirs, though. I don't think I'd want to be gardening in a place walled off from breezes.

Our deer laugh at 5 ft. fences. If we erected stone, the sun would be blocked. This growing season should be interesting.
