WASHINGTON, D.C., March 14, 2013 (Heritage Foundation) - The media likes to present the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community as if they speak with one voice, as a monolithic group. But more and more members of that community are speaking out in defense of marriagebetween a man and woman.
Doug Mainwaring is one such advocate. An adoptive parent and openly gay man, he is perhaps the unlikeliest opponent of redefining marriage. But his own experience as a parent revealed to him that children need a mom and a dad, and that marriage is ultimately about putting the needs of children before the desires of adults.
In a recent article at Public Discourse titled Im Gay and I Oppose Same-Sex Marriage, Mainwaring makes the bold claim that:
To be fully formed, children need to be free to generously receive from and express affection to parents of both genders. Genderless marriages deny this fullness.
Mainwaring reflected on the day-to-day routines of mothering and fathering, and came away with the conviction that children should not be denied the uniqueness of what mothers and fathers bring to their upbringing. As Mainwaring says:
There are perhaps a hundred different things, small and large, that are negotiated between parents and kids every week. Moms and dads interact differently with their children. To give kids two moms or two dads is to withhold from them someone whom they desperately need and deserve in order to be whole and happy.
Mainwaring is also clear on what influenced his thinking about marriage: Neither religion nor tradition has played a significant role in forming my stance. But reason and experience certainly have.
His reason and experience led him to conclude that marriage is about connecting children to a mom and a dad. As marriage goes before the Supreme Court in late March, it is time to focus on this central matter in the marriage debate. That issue is undermined if marriage is redefined to center the institution on adults, rather than children.
Brave man.
Hell hath no fury like the homosexual agenda when tested with reality.
What has he done for his own children to compensate for the absence of Mom? It is refreshing that he recognizes this “truth”, and I hope that he has a close by mother (grandmother) or a sister to fill in for those kids.
Rosie O’Donnell admitted as much when she said that her son told her that he would like to have a father.
Simply stating the obvious — that a man and a woman each bring something unique to the raising of a child.
Man is he gonna get blasted for telling the truth.
“To be fully formed, children need to be free to generously receive from and express affection to parents of both genders. Genderless marriages deny this fullness. “
Great statement and worth repeating.
Liberalism is about denying human nature, then spending one’s entire life trying desperately to feel good about it.
Mother->Daughter, Mother->Son, Father->Daughter, Father->Son.
Each relationship is different and unique and not interchangeable.
I have worked in school systems and have seen a fair number of children adopted by gay couples.
The gay parents I know are good parents. They are loving supportive and balance it with the right amount of discipline. Yet, these kids are usually troubled and we start seeing this in the middle school years.
If the child is willing to talk they say the love both of their parents but they wish they had a mom and a dad.
His true love for a child has helped him see at least half the truth - now if could apply the same logical thinking to himself he might actually repent and turn to God who loves him as a child.
I hope he does, prayers for him.

This is the thing, and it needs to be repeated: It's not about "Are you competent" as a parent.
It's "Do kids need a mom and dad?"
Solicitor General Donald B. Verrilli of the Obama Justice Department is arguing to the Supreme Court that a child has no need for a mom, no right to a mom, and no interest in a mom.
Just insane.

You are so right! I have thanked God so many times that I have had both. The mother part is obvious since I am female, but the love for my father shaped my whole attitude toward the male sex. Never in my whole life would I have allowed a male to mistreat me because I KNEW that my father found me worthy of respect. If only all fathers knew how important it is to a daughter and how much it would affect her eventual life.
bkmk
Even Elton John pretty much admitted the same thing, but that didn’t stop him from getting another kid.

Rosie ODonnell admitted as much when she said that her son told her that he would like to have a father.”
Do does that mean that Rosie is going to have a sex change operation in the near future?
She either cuffed him in the ear for reminding her that she is not a male...
OR
She really thinks she is a male and was genuinely puzzled as to why he would say such a thing.
Indeed, kids do need a mom and a dad....
Men and woman approach life differently and that creates the balance that children need.
