Yet Costco, left leaning; thrives. Its CEO spoke at the DNC. Prices there are going up in a big way. Somehow inflation figures don’t show it.

There may be more to Walmart’s sales ups and downs than shelf prices. It’s getting a reputation for sleaze and obesity.

I belong to both Sam’s and Costco, and the stores are only a few miles apart.

In my view, the clientele in Costco is definitely more upscale than Sam’s. You get a “higher end” vibe about the whole place. One other interesting thing is that Costco’s gasoline price is typically 2 cents above Sam’s also, although both are usually 10-12 cents below prevailing prices.

I heard an analyst on tv mention that Costco is just a breakeven financial proposition on their merchandise and all their profit comes from the membership money.
