I had a great multi-band radio a few years ago and would love to get one again. It was great listening to it at night. Loved the 'numbers stations' (and would LOVE to hear theories about them!). They were sooooooo creepy.
I like analog receivers. I know their outdated......but easier to tune.
I'm looking in the $150 range and under. Don't want to spend much as we have a lot of expenses coming up.

I ordered a Tecsun PL-390 from Amazon last June. When it came it was in a carton with all text in Chinese and the enclosed owner's manual was in Chinese also. I was able to download a copy from Tecsun in English, but I haven't found it to be easy to understand at all. I have been disappointed in the shortwave performance, which was my main reason for ordering it. I liked my old Radio Shack DX-392 with cassette tape recorder/playback better; of course it's much larger than pocket size, and the Shack doesn't even offer anything similar nowadays.
I have not tried hooking the PL-390 up to an antenna yet. It will probably do as well as they claim, and it does do a fairly good job with nearby FM and AM broadcast stations as-is.

I loved listening to them through the years and NEVER KNEW what they were. The quirky and creepy “song” that they would play (like station identification) and the sequence of numbers or alphabet.

I have had a Grundig S350 for several years. I would like one just like it if it broke. Digital display with analog fine tuning. Am/Fm/Sw/Sw. About $100 @ Radio Shack

It really is strange. But, I imagine, quite effective, since the Fedzilla is constantly monitoring us on the Internet. It’s “low tech”. Kinda like IRC.....by today’s terms.

My Realistic DX-440 is still going strong after 20+ years. Unfortunately, there isn’t that much out there anymore.

You’re off by a factor of 10, but that shouldn’t mean anything since it’s got sentimental value.
For $150, a used Sony 2010 should be available and they’re still the gold standard in small portable SW receivers.

I LOVE my Grundig S-350...runs on 120vac or (4) D cells....during Hurricane Sandy the radio lasted 2 weeks on battery and the batteries were still good.
It will also run on four AA batteries in a pinch. The AA compartment is recessed below the D battery bay.
