Have you ever read Sun Tzu’s Art of War? This whole Chinese strategy is right out of his book.
Unfortunately the only thing I remember from the book is not to fully enclose your enemy as doing so essentially provokes an unrivaled survival fight that would not otherwise exist if the enemy feels it can escape.
