Beaudette covers the original key experiments, and the follow-on work that validated them. He does this in sufficient depth and detail (and sufficiently well-referenced) so that the professional scientist can benefit, but clearly enough that the educated layman can also understand. In addition he covers the sociology of the skeptics, and how they attempted to throttle cold fusion in the cradle. Unsuccessfully, fortunately.
