Some folks...particularly those born without limbs, or who lost them at a very young age, tend to adapt to not having that limb, and generally function better without a prosthetic in some cases! Others just find the prosthetic too cumbersome, or too difficult to get used to, or are simply content with what they have (or don’t have)..

In that same vein............I vividly recall, early in my career, when I delivered babies for a living.......a babe was born without fingers on his left hand.......I was sad and yes, tearful....the pediatrician was fantastic...he gave me a hug and said...”that lad will be fine...he does not know he is supposed to have fingers on that hand”
The child will adapt, in other words :-)
