The paid VPN’s or the free ones? If you download using bit torrent, you’ll be amazed at the info they provide in the torrent / download forums like Pirate Bay or KAT, even the anime/manga websites. Once Megaupload got bit by obama’s RIAA/MPAA lackeys, almost everyone were discovering stuff on how to remain anonymous.

You didn’t give enough information to be sure what your technical competency is but for security and anonymity you have a lot of choices. VPN’s like the one i mention below are cheap. For free anon browsing just read up on “TOR”. Don’t do banking, etc.. over it though. Do that in another browser like IE exclusively and only for that.

For my everyday web browsing I use most all of this for added security (as needed):
www.comodo.com/home/browsers-toolbars/browser.php (chrome)
www.eff.org/https-everywhere (chrome plugin)
startpage.com (secure searching)
hushmail.com (secure email)
ibvpn.com (vpn i use that is slower than i like but decent otherwise)
www.torproject.org (secure browsing - get the browser bundle)

These next require more advanced computer knowledge to setup and use.
truecrypt.org
www.i2p2.de (has web outproxies)
freenetproject.org
www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/primo-ramdisk/ (put your portable browser on a load-only RAMdisk for added speed and security)
privazer.com (good cleaner)
sandboxie.com (web browsing security sandbox)

I've used OpenVPN quite a bit this past year, as well as some higher end commercial VPN products, and I must say I really prefer OpenVPN.

For site-to-site VPN I buy the old USRobotics USR8200 routers whenever I can find them on eBay. This gives you site-to-site without having to do anything on your local computer (however, it does take a bit of a wiz to upgrade the firmware and maintain the thing).

My best experience has been with AnchorFree, and I know it works for friends I have in countries that have firewalls. There is a free ad-supported version, and also a paid version.
