The guest of honor at a Stoughton baby shower that deteriorated into a bottle-bashing, chair-smashing brawl between as many as 200 people Saturday night tearfully told the Herald yesterday that gate-crashers and cops with stun guns ruined her special night and terrified the guests.
My niece got shoved across the room. Shes only 2 months old. A kid got hit in the head with a table. I was very scared. Its still a shock to me, said Maria Depina, 22, of Brockton, who blamed the chaos at Club Luis De Camoes on party crashers we didnt even know and overly aggressive cops.
I didnt even get to cut the cake, lamented Depina, who is eight months pregnant with her first child, a daughter, and was celebrating with 180 guests, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. with a cash bar.
Depinas older brother, Paulo Pires Depina, 24, was one of three Brockton men wholl be arraigned today in Stoughton District Court on charges including disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer. A 14-year-old from Brockton was booked on similar charges.
Depina said her brother became angry and flipped a table after his 6-month-old also got thrown across the room.
My brother got Tased right in front of me and a police officer pushed me on top of him, she claimed. (The police) could have done a better job.
Stoughton police Executive Officer Robert Devine dismissed Depinas finger-pointing as nonsense, absolute nonsense. They started fighting with each other. Thats why we responded.
Devine said the crowd was so out of control that Stoughton cops had to call for backup from the state police, Canton, Easton and Randolph police departments, as well as the Norfolk Sheriffs Department.
The behavior was appalling. It was absolutely appalling. Theres just no other way to put it, Devine told the Herald. The worst part was there was a lot of children. Our officers were concerned about the safety of the little ones, while the people who were fighting apparently could have cared less. They were swinging chairs and smashing bottles.
Devine said it all apparently started when one man was sucker punched so hard his head bled.
He said he had no report of Depinas brother being zapped with a stun gun, but said police did shock another man they arrested, Patrick Cardoso Lopes, 24, of Brockton. Also arrested was Aderito Lopes Deandrade, 22, of Brockton.
Devine said in using stun guns, his officers went with the less-lethal option. The officers exercised extreme restraint. It was a chaotic scene. It was probably one of the more
dangerous ones theyve been in.
Saturday night's alright for fighting
Since when are baby showers held from 8pm to 1am with cash bars?
sounds like the makings of a new TV reality show
Two key words are repeated throughout the story.
“of Brockton”
All you need to know right there.
Someone asked, "Where the heck do they find people like this?"
The reply, "In Brockton, of course."
Cash bar? How tacky.
At least when my Italian relatives throw down at weddings, they wait til the cake is cut before fighting over the centerpieces....
We’re classy that way ;-)
Holding a baby shower at at Club Luis De Camoes is very shiek an the “in” thing to dontcha know!
LOL. Well, Maria, you know what they say -- you can't have your cake and smash it in your b__ch sister-in-law's face too.
Do tell ... what is this "Brockton" of which you speak?
Got out when I was three days old.
>>Since when are baby showers held from 8pm to 1am with cash bars?
Because....this is Massachusetts!
The spirit of Massachusetts is the spirit of America
The spirit of the red white and blue
The spirit of Massachusetts is the spirit of America
The spirit that we want to share with you!

Please don’t release a YT video of this!
Did anybody shout “Make it rain” in there anywhere?
LOL!
No surprise here. Many of our cities in these liberal paradises are now more like banana republic towns and cities.
” you can’t have your cake and smash it in your b__ch sister-in-law’s face too.”
Post of the day.
Just like any other city in Assachusetts, Brockton is a former manufacturing city that’s now declined. Full of immigrants on welfare and SSDI, high crime rate, few jobs to speak of. Just like Lowell, Lynn, Haverhill, Worcester (Worcester isn’t as bad), etc.
