The guest of honor at a Stoughton baby shower that deteriorated into a bottle-bashing, chair-smashing brawl between as many as 200 people Saturday night tearfully told the Herald yesterday that gate-crashers and cops with stun guns ruined her special night and terrified the guests.
My niece got shoved across the room. Shes only 2 months old. A kid got hit in the head with a table. I was very scared. Its still a shock to me, said Maria Depina, 22, of Brockton, who blamed the chaos at Club Luis De Camoes on party crashers we didnt even know and overly aggressive cops.
I didnt even get to cut the cake, lamented Depina, who is eight months pregnant with her first child, a daughter, and was celebrating with 180 guests, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. with a cash bar.
Depinas older brother, Paulo Pires Depina, 24, was one of three Brockton men wholl be arraigned today in Stoughton District Court on charges including disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer. A 14-year-old from Brockton was booked on similar charges.
Depina said her brother became angry and flipped a table after his 6-month-old also got thrown across the room.
My brother got Tased right in front of me and a police officer pushed me on top of him, she claimed. (The police) could have done a better job.
Stoughton police Executive Officer Robert Devine dismissed Depinas finger-pointing as nonsense, absolute nonsense. They started fighting with each other. Thats why we responded.
Devine said the crowd was so out of control that Stoughton cops had to call for backup from the state police, Canton, Easton and Randolph police departments, as well as the Norfolk Sheriffs Department.
The behavior was appalling. It was absolutely appalling. Theres just no other way to put it, Devine told the Herald. The worst part was there was a lot of children. Our officers were concerned about the safety of the little ones, while the people who were fighting apparently could have cared less. They were swinging chairs and smashing bottles.
Devine said it all apparently started when one man was sucker punched so hard his head bled.
He said he had no report of Depinas brother being zapped with a stun gun, but said police did shock another man they arrested, Patrick Cardoso Lopes, 24, of Brockton. Also arrested was Aderito Lopes Deandrade, 22, of Brockton.
Devine said in using stun guns, his officers went with the less-lethal option. The officers exercised extreme restraint. It was a chaotic scene. It was probably one of the more
dangerous ones theyve been in.
"My Big Fat Illegal Alien Baby Shower."
Pretty soon. “Third World USA” is going to become a redundant term.
But in my era, after those tasks are completed, the man (men) were supposed to retire elsewhere and leave the ladies to their gossip and games, only to return after the guests are gone to help clean up. ;)
Your father sounds like a wise man!
“The Nation’s Capital” (AKA the District of Criminals) is already a Third World kakistocracy ...
dumbing down America: another success story
Taking a wild stab in the dark here
BUT
Maybe, just maybe, the parents have been married for over ‘9 months’, both have jobs, no welfare, no food stamps, no subsidized housing,
SO
When that trifecta is hit it calls for a HUGE PARTY.
Thank God it wasn’t held at Chucky Cheese or things really could have got out of control.
Cape Verdeans.
What did Depina’s husband, the proud father of this child, have to say about the proceedings?
What were children doing in a bar?
All the women I know, including myself, are capable or setting up tables, carrying stuff in and taking out the trash. In fact, in my house I’m probably the only one who does those things.
Wow. You're quite the humanitarian.
These may be the sort of kind, Christian thoughts that went through Adam Lanza's head.
LOL
I think she wanted to cut that cake that was all over her sister in law’s face.
Your link 404’d for me, raccoonradio. Here’s another for anyone ;-) late to the party.

Mr K, Yep.
I could see that. The last time I frequented Chucky Cheese, I wanted to get some cans of gasoline and burn the place down after eating the “pizza” ....or whatever it was...might have been wall plaster by the way it tasted.
Brockton’s new slogan “Slightly Better than Dorchester!”
Brockton better than Dorchester? Sink me, what an ignorant comment!
LOL! - Post of the day, imho.
Some people sure like to fight. If I’m ever invited to a baby shower, I’ll be sure to carry. ;)
Plenty of similar in CT too, per my buddy who lives there. CT used to have a vibrant firearms manufacturing industry, but they ran that off.
