The guest of honor at a Stoughton baby shower that deteriorated into a bottle-bashing, chair-smashing brawl between as many as 200 people Saturday night tearfully told the Herald yesterday that gate-crashers and cops with stun guns ruined her special night and terrified the guests.
My niece got shoved across the room. Shes only 2 months old. A kid got hit in the head with a table. I was very scared. Its still a shock to me, said Maria Depina, 22, of Brockton, who blamed the chaos at Club Luis De Camoes on party crashers we didnt even know and overly aggressive cops.
I didnt even get to cut the cake, lamented Depina, who is eight months pregnant with her first child, a daughter, and was celebrating with 180 guests, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. with a cash bar.
Depinas older brother, Paulo Pires Depina, 24, was one of three Brockton men wholl be arraigned today in Stoughton District Court on charges including disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer. A 14-year-old from Brockton was booked on similar charges.
Depina said her brother became angry and flipped a table after his 6-month-old also got thrown across the room.
My brother got Tased right in front of me and a police officer pushed me on top of him, she claimed. (The police) could have done a better job.
Stoughton police Executive Officer Robert Devine dismissed Depinas finger-pointing as nonsense, absolute nonsense. They started fighting with each other. Thats why we responded.
Devine said the crowd was so out of control that Stoughton cops had to call for backup from the state police, Canton, Easton and Randolph police departments, as well as the Norfolk Sheriffs Department.
The behavior was appalling. It was absolutely appalling. Theres just no other way to put it, Devine told the Herald. The worst part was there was a lot of children. Our officers were concerned about the safety of the little ones, while the people who were fighting apparently could have cared less. They were swinging chairs and smashing bottles.
Devine said it all apparently started when one man was sucker punched so hard his head bled.
He said he had no report of Depinas brother being zapped with a stun gun, but said police did shock another man they arrested, Patrick Cardoso Lopes, 24, of Brockton. Also arrested was Aderito Lopes Deandrade, 22, of Brockton.
Devine said in using stun guns, his officers went with the less-lethal option. The officers exercised extreme restraint. It was a chaotic scene. It was probably one of the more
dangerous ones theyve been in.
Since when are 180 people invited to a baby shower? And I’ve never been to a baby shower where there are men present.
The last time I gave a shower, it was for the wedding of one of my daughter’s friends. The bride asked that her fiance and his friends be invited. Big mistake. We lived outside of town on top of a mountain. The “men” collected out in the parking lot were generally disruptive and I worried about all of them getting home safely down the twisty mountain road. The men just spoiled the whole evening. Never again.
Upset at the new format on 96.9?
Our feral population strikes again! The US is breeding wild animals ... who vote.

I’ve never heard of a baby shower that didn’t have fewer than 20 women; as guests of whomever had the nicer home. They dress nice, pinky-sip tea, and talk about secret women things. Viva la difference. (At least that’s all they let on to us menfolk)
Don’t be dumping on Brockton as a whole. There is, however, a lot of human garbage there. Imagine how much welfare money would have been saved if there had been a “tragic fire” at the hall which wiped out the “party goers”?
Who sets up the tables, carries stuff in, loads stuff up and hauls out the trash? I have been invited to baby and wedding showers for the aforementioned reasons.
It is kind of like my father used to say about putting boys to work on the ranch. If you put one boy to work, you'll get one boy's worth of work. If you put two, you'll get the work output of half a boy. But if you put three, you'll get a whale of a lot of trouble.
That's why God intended us to pair up with one woman. So we'd get proper supervision.
One of those, ‘ you can’t make this up” stories
the paper took down the story
it is not at link
Right you are!

Anyone check whether the Depina’s are legal?
Hey, there have been family members shot at the baby’s baptism party in San Antonio, so this is just another side of that fabulous “ethnic diversity” that the USA can’t do without.
One single baby shower turned violent that made the news,
So we should have more strick law against ALL baby showers.
Background checks, mental health pre-screening, etc etc
link changed maybe, went to front page and it’s linked there:
Third World USA.
