Unfortunately I've heard(like most professional sports)the vast majority of revenue comes from TV contracts(not ticket sales, merchandise, etc)...as such there is no reason to change the status quo.

...unless of course people stop watching, driving TV ratings in the toilet.

The average cable/dish subscriber is paying 40%-50% of their bill to sports networks(ESPN,FOX(local),others).

Example: "Dodgers, Fox Sports talking $6-billion TV deal..."

Yet another reason to dump the dumbing down, propaganda machine that is today's media.

Hockeys not like the American based sports. Most revenue does come from ticket sales, arena corporate accounts and local deals. If enough fans want to make a statement by not going to games, it will hurt the NHL.

That said, I'll be back. The NHL doesn't owe me anything but a good product on the ice in exchange for my ticket purchase.
