Self-taught is great. But when one has to pay bills and buy groceries, there is no resume’ to back up the claims.
Since I was in a minority (”Displaced Homemaker Under the age of 45”) my self-teaching got me absolutely nowhere. There is a problem with “over-education” but there is also a problem with “under-education.”
When I learned computer and office skills, I was so far behind the “Curve” that I was almost unemployable. By the time I had honed my skills enough to be “valuable,” I contracted CFIDS and everything, from that point on, was moot.
I don’t know what to say. They can’t figure out my age when I just sit down in front of them. It’s the strangest thing, and I can’t explain it.
I’m in my 50’s and people who first meet me think I am in my 30’s. And that does not play to my advantage. I am not a kid! I’m an old guy, and I know what songs your Momma liked!
