20 degrees today, going up to a high of 29. About 4:00 a group of volunteers will hit the streets of lower Manhattan looking for homeless to bring back for a hot meal and, maybe, a night in a non-profit shelter. It’s the first of four weekends.
Last year it was surprisingly warm. Today it will feel a little more necessary.
My church brings homeless people, often including women and children, to eat and sleep at the church on Friday nights from November to March. Sometimes it’s so warm that it doesn’t seem necessary, but then there are times when the heat really matters!
