“Founding Fathers had had their ways, we would all be speaking German.”

‘Shudder’.
Guten Tag Ma'am.
Du bist um diese Teile neu.
Fühlen Sie sich glücklich.
Runden em up, Rohhaut.
Steigen Sie Ihr Pferd und trinken die Milch.

No way.. the movies would have been a disaster!

Speaking German? That would not have set well with Samuel Clemens. That Awful German Language. Or from The Disappearance of Literature:

"The Germans have an inhuman way of cutting up their verbs. Now a verb has a hard time enough of it in this world when it's all together. It's downright inhuman to split it up. But that's just what those Germans do. They take part of a verb and put it down here, like a stake, and they take the other part of it and put it away over yonder like another stake, and between these two limits they just shovel in German."

Can’t speak to the Brits’ dietary habits, but you may have seen in the news that the region around Tokyo received a goodly (for the area) bit of snow on Monday. The weather turned most of the area roads into parking lots. What is normally a 25 minute trip home from work was transformed into a 3-hour adventure, including witnessing several multi-gruntle pileups, and a fishtailing, grinning-like-a-madman romp (sans chains) up a mountain road the likes of which I last experienced in 1983.

Good times.

Exciting! It’s 50 and drizzly here. I’m thinking of drinking.

"I’m thinking of drinking."

I'd happily join you, but since it's just pushing 6:00 a.m. here and I'm on my way out the door to work, I'll have to take a rain check. Have one for me.

Hi! We have freezing rain and ice all over everything. Elderly neighbor assures us that there will be power outage. Getting ready to cook dinner while Mr. Sg takes care of auxiliary heating. Goodnight all!

Re: ice pellets; Everything looks frosted. It’s beautiful. Saw three deer in the southern aspect of property. They looked peaceful and contented as long as we didn’t bother them. Sorry—unable to evaluate calibre of the pellets. It isn’t as injurious as a hailstorm. Those things *hurt*! Still waiting for power outage. (Le sigh)
