Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedevs off-air comments that Russian Presidents are given a secret file about extraterrestrials living among us created much media interest. Most news reports claimed that Medvedev was simply joking. His apparent reference to the Men In Black movie as a source of information on a super secret agency that monitors extraterrestrials on Earth was commonly cited as key evidence that he was in fact joking. The reasoning is that no political leader would refer reporters to a comedy to clarify national policy. It has now emerged that Medvedev was not referring to the Men in Black comedy after all, but to a recent Russian television documentary titled Men in Black that reveals many details about an extensive cover up of extraterrestrial life visiting Earth.
However, a more accurate translation of what Medvedev actually said about the Men in Black phenomenon was: You can receive more detailed information having watched the documentary film of the same name. So Medvedev was referring to a Russian documentary film titled Men in Black, not the Hollywood blockbuster by the same name...
Russian Men In Black (MIB) documentary, a number of prominent UFO cases in Russia and the USA are discussed. The Roswell UFO crash is covered, along with a number of extraterrestrial abduction cases, and UFOs disabling nuclear weapons facilities. The documentary examines testimony that extraterrestrial bases have been established on Earth, and that some are in restricted US military areas with the full knowledge of the Pentagon. The documentary even goes on to seriously discuss President Eisenhowers alleged meeting with extraterrestrials, where agreements were reached with some of the visitors giving them permission to take some of the Earths resources in exchange for advanced technology...

I agree with most of what you wrote. I distinguish everlasting (without end) from eternal (without beginning or end). That might just be me.
God's life in us is literally the Holy Spirit taking up residence in us as His temple. That is when we receive eternal life.
I'd like to live long enough to find out... ;-)
In my case, it appears to be for retaining the lyrics to the theme songs of TV shows I watched when I was young.
It certainly ain't for remembering what I promised Mrs. ArGee I would pick up on the way home tonight. :0
Sorry - I forgot to close the italic flag. Another thing all that extra brain power ISN’T being used for. ;)
That's a popular narrative, but I have yet to see any evidence of it. People are pretty comfortable with knowing there are things we don't understand. I don't think this is something that has changed through the ages. And if that were the reason people "invented" their gods, they sure did a lousy job of it since they mostly invented gods they didn't understand.
Nope. Not “important”, irrelevant. We are. Looking at all the other possibilities... That is pretty much enough to be happy with.
If you NEED a purpose to continue existing, I won’t stop you from doing so.
The UT has been a VERY long conversation amongst a loose group of FRiends. Don’t feel rushed into pounding out a billion word doctoral thesis in one post. ;-)
“Very long conversation” = understatement of the year.
We’ve been babbling about anything and everything for quite some time.
Cultural identity often gets tied up in a common mythology/psychology. It provides a “link” between people that might not otherwise exist.
Are we still free to choose? I’d say that while trying to modify our government to protect certain aspects of Judeo-Christian tenets, we have given our Enemies the very tools to now infringe on that religious freedom.
Islam is a cancerous cultural meme. It poisons and kills anywhere it takes hold. As such, it is less a “religion” and more a virulent psychopathy. My Ancestors had the recipe to the cure for such cultural insanity: You attack us, we burn your entire village/city down and kill every living thing. Within one generation, they came to fear the ships with the square sails whenever they came over the horizon.
Again, this argues Theology. Ants putting labels on Gods. We get lost in the minutia and forget that we are trying to pay homage to, or curry favor from, beings that are completely beyond our understanding.
LOL!
Me too!!
Remember that the Holy Spirit does not always dwell with man. We receive him when we are worthy, but that doesn’t mean he is camped on our doorsteps.
We just have to live our lives worthily! If we obey the Commandments and otherwise, do good deeds, we can expect his guidance.
Obiviously, there are people in the world who never know the blessing of having that guidance. More’s the pity!
LOL!
Been there! The brain often has a loop of musical phrase that lasts for weeks...not conducive to a good night’s rest.
In the research I’ve done on the world religions, the mystery of why a particular deity blessed them or cursed them was part of the adherence to the belief. They didn’t know why, which means, they could not be gods because they didn’t understand.
Why do you say irrelevant. I gave two examples of the relevance. Did I miss where you refuted that they demonstrated the relevance of why we are here?
If I believe there is no purpose in my continued existence, even that belief has implications on my choices. Whether I believe that or something else is extremely relevant.
And that is the theme that keeps recurring when Islam rears its ugly head in history. They will convert us all or kill us, and that is their sole purpose. I for one, am going to go down fighting the ugliness of their godless beliefs.
(If I only had a sidearm instead of a slingshot...)
I don't say the Holy Spirit dwells within all men, but when we receive Eternal Life, that is receiving the Holy Spirit to dwell within us. I'm not discussing the howcomes and whyfors, just the fact that the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is what give us eternal life - His life.
I know He dwells in me. I also know I'm not worthy and there are many times He facepalms at what I'm doing. Fortunately, He's the forgiving sort.
Do you really care about what that ant outside your front door thinks or what it’s motivations are?
The purpose of your continued existence is to continue existing.
That’s a fairly heady charge for anyone.
The look on that face is priceless.
Small correction, they do believe in God. In fact, the God Jehovah/Allah. They just believe that Mad Mo came down and gave them a bunch of updates that they plopped down into the Koran and ran with. Even Muslims aren't that bad and mostly keep to themselves. It's those following Islam, and the imposition of Sharia law, that they go the way of the Westboro nutcases...
Spend too much time in the desert heat, and you'll believe almost anything apparently.
I'm not sure why you keep bringing up ants, but this is a statement about the "why." You have made a statement, which means you consider your answer to have value.
To demonstrate the importance of "why," let me ask you this, is the purpose of your continued existence to continue existing no matter what? Is it, maybe, to continue existing until you don't like it anymore? At such time, are you free to discontinue your own existence?
