Organizers with the State Fair of Texas are now taking donations to help fund the rebuilding of Big Tex.

Big Tex was destroyed by a fire in October in the last days of the fair.

Sue Gooding, with the State Fair, said Big Tex was insured for between $180,000 and $200,000, but that the costs to rebuild him, and to prepare the area in which he stands, will come close to $600,000.

Excuse me. Because the fair officials weren't smart enough to insure Big Tex appropriately, they want us to pay for him? I don't think so. If they're that stupid then they're stupid enough to not handle the donations as they should. Out of the ashes, I'm smelling scam.

In reality it probably only would cost 200,00 to rebuild him but with government rules and regulations, for our own good, it cost 3 times as much......

Since they had a funeral for the guy maybe they should have passed a collection plate.....

I’m a native Texan, and I say if you can’t afford Big Tex, make Little Tex.

They’ll be trying to guilt you into donating in the name of tradition or history. I mean, he started out as a giant Santa Claus in a little town before he was transformed for the State Fair of Texas.

Just $600,000?
