I think there’s probably a lot more assault rifles out there than that. Even at 1% of all firearms, that’s only around 2 million assault rifles. I suspect there’s actually 10-20 million of them out there, perhaps more.

But you have to remember also rifles sold between 1994 and 2004 are not assault weapons so you can’t count them. :)

I was going to post this but didn't because it's long on speculation and short on actual confirmable data. The author suggests that there are
2,446,294 to maybe 3,750,000 assault rifles in the country. The AR15 is incredible popular and for good reason. It's a great rifle. I don't think anybody really knows how many are out there and that probably bothers the hell out of our government-free men having access to the tools of revolution and all.
