I'm more than happy with my Taurus Public Defender Ultralight (22oz.) .45 and/or 410.

Dad has one, but I'm in CA and they're illegal here or I'd have one in a NY minute.

If...
this is your first gun and/or...
you won't get any/much professional training and/or...
you won't spend much time practicing clearing jams and/or...
you won't be religious about cleaning/maintenance....

You might be my wife so get a stainless wheel gun. Hers is a Taurus 85 ultralite .38+P, 5 shot 2". 5 pulls, 5 booms.

If you NEED 15 + 1 and a bunch of extra mags you either need to spend more time on the range or stay out of that part of town.

That makes me sad. The .410 is the most versatile handgun you can buy. You can choose .45 bullets, 000 buckshot, or even PDX1 rounds. No other handgun is this versatile.
