The only thing I think I can do is go to auto shops and get quotes for things it could need and submit it.

What a SCAM! I PAID Tax on what I purchased and have the proof!!
Remove something expensive, then take it (or have it towed) in and get a quote to replace it. Make sure they quote you the price for an OEM part.
