My thought also. It looks like a cross section of sedimentary rock. I have a beautiful stepdaughter with similar coloration to her and I am going to send her the pic.

Your description is exactly what came to my mind when I saw the dress. Compared to all the other garish clothes normally seen in celebrity red carpet photos I liked this dress.
