My tin foil tells me that the Lebonese socialite and Shirtless hatched a scheme to concoct the emails as a pre-text for the FBI to dig into Broadwell's account and discover the affair. Thus her need now for a criminal defense atty.
Now why the Clinton impeachment lawyer? It's possible that elements of State were involved to get something on Petraeus if ever the need should arise.
I know...that is heavy conspiracy theory but I will tentatively entertain these ideas until proven otherwise...

There was no affair. Benghazi was used for extrajudicial rendition. Petraeus wants to keep it secret but is unwilling to lie under oath. So he takes one for the team. The timing of this - after the election but before the Benghazi hearings - is extraordinary. And the CIA was quick to say that Petraeus would not be testifying.
Do I believe this - no - but it sounds good. Only part that doesn’t fit is Broadwell bringing up the extrajudicial rendition.
