I am ‘going Galt’ until this passes...
I’ve been thinking of getting people together to start a non profit org. In CA all the non profits push for more taxes on those suckers that work for profit, yet if they had to pay taxes, they would not be able to afford that cadellac health insurance and retirment for themselves and employees. A lot of them are based on being an education org and claim to be non political and non biased, but they are defintely progressive. Why not a non biased education org on reality eonomics?
I think I’ve done two in ten years, and one was Anoreth’s graduation from Coast Guard basic, which also included a couple of other military parents/children.
I also had a “This is a Test” post once. Those used to generate considerable humor.
For christmas find a real family in need. hard working God fearing americans down on their luck. no salvation army or tree angels for me. i donate to those truly in need. let O take on the rest.
Part of my frustration and wanting to go Galt (Galt Lite) is simply to not support a system that no matter what we do just IGNORES us... Conservatives are worse than Lepers to Establishment Republicans and are Terrorist to numb minded Democrats. We fight like hell and we end up with McCain and Romney which gives obama... The Makers just have to conserve our resources and keep them away from the Takers... Stat small and grow into a more powerful force... The less money in the broken corrupt system - the less that can be taken.
Personally - I’m going to Thailand in the Spring and will live nicely ... My contributions to the Takers will be limited.
Channel blocking may make you feel good, but you are are still sending your monthly donation to the left unless you DISCONNECT YOUR CABLE ENTIRELY.
Not really. Galt sabotaged his engine and many of the key industrialists sabotaged their business (because as corporations, the business would go on without them), but most just disappeared without a trace leaving people wondering what happened to them. If they had all publicly destroyed their business, no one would have been wondering.

Yep, I really doubt I’d ever feel the need for a vanity, short of something like, “Hey, serious earthquake in my area; anyone feel it?” Even then, I’d probably wait to see if someone posted first.
In an attempt to rid myself of feelings usually felt when a loved one dies, I have tried to recenter myself. I have never watched CNN and drek of that nature, but I have also blocked Fox. They just aren’t on my side. I am grateful that all the phone calls have stopped. MY major efforts include refinancing my balance on my house mortgage at 3% (6% now) and cutting my expenditures to the bone. I will concentrate on family and tune the world out. If and when I feel reenergized I will look around the battlefield and select my connections carefully. I changed my political registration 4 years ago to independent, Republicans do not want or need me. I have actually cut my Free Republic time down significantly. I will continue to be a monthly donor.
I need to rereread it, too, lol! I thought it meant to allow means of productivity to slowly circle the drain and go down without an attempt at saving it.

Maybe just actively stop buying from companies that support 0zero and the rest of the leftist agenda, here are a few:
GE (General Electric) - owns NBC/MSNBC
COMCAST - owns the other half of NBC/MSNBC
AMAZON - CEO gave $1 Million in support of same sex marriage which was approved by voters in his home state of Washington.
GENERAL MOTORS - bailed out by 0zero with your tax money, still owes $34 Billion and is exempt from paying corporate income taxes until they repay the taxpayers with the taxpayers own money.
CHRYSLER/JEEP/DODGE - bailed out by 0zero with your tax money, is now a Foreign company and moving some of its manufacturing overseas including to China.
FACEBOOK - all huge supporters of 0bama, one of it’s founders was on 0bama’s election committee.
GOOGLE - founders are huge 0bama supporters.
STARBUCKS - CEO is a huge 0bama supporter.
MICROSOFT - CEO is a huge 0bama supporter and in favor of raising taxes.
RED LOBSTER/OLIVE GARDEN (Darden Restaurants) - CEO is a huge 0bama supporter, received waivers for 0bamacare and it now reducing employees to under 30 hours, so he doesn’t have to offer healthcare.
WARREN BUFFET (Berkshire Hathaway) - huge 0bama supporter, pushing to raise taxes on everyone else, but himself, while he is fighting with the IRS over $5 Billion that he refuses to pay in taxes, here is a partail list of Berkshire Hathaway’s Companies:

Sorry - no it doesn't. While Francisco D. & Ellis Wyatt did willfully destroy their businesses, the rest either walked away - or in the case of John Galt - persuaded others to walk away.
In fact Midas M. did just the opposite of destroying his business; on the day he left, deposits were returned. The looters hoping to find some pickings instead found his books balanced to the penny. Nothing remained, but none of his depositors lost a thing.
Francisco's rationale for willfully destroying his business was that the nature of mining would have allowed slave labor to exploit his holdings for a century or more - even in his absence.
Ellis? He was just grumpy...

It seems to me the system has been destroyed. At least the constitutional republic we used to have. I agree with those who say we’re in a cold civil war. Maybe it’s time to take it up a notch. What day is the national election certified? Maybe we need to have Republicans, AFP groups, 912’ers & all like-minded people hold protests at state capitols. We need to let those in charge know that we do not accept what’s going on & we WILL fight them. And then start protesting in whatever way we can - refusing to purchase any unnecessary item, cutting employees back in shifts to avoid Obamacare (or terminating), buying only ammo & prepping materials, etc... I’m sure we could come up with an excellent list of things to do (or not do) during our ‘civil’ war.

Yep. if you want to get literal it also means moving into a “galt’s gulch” and basically disconnecting from society. So I think many are thinking of “going galt” as more of a “partial galt” to various degrees.
I think it is helpful to starve the beast of tax revenues even if by only a small amount. So I don’t see this as all or nothing. Having said that I am finding it is difficult to do any of this without reducing one’s standard of living. I am not interested in letting liberals completely redefine my lifestyle. I will do whatever I do on my own terms after reflection and analysis. If I only deny them a modest amount of tax revenues then that is money I can redirect somewhere else.
I am also thinking about investments differently. Considering moving into municipal bonds and tax free instruments. But in any event any decision will be slow and calculated and not emotional.

Sorry—but the first poster was closer to the mark: As I recall, Franscisco D. set up James Taggart, Dagny’s brother, and his governmental dupes to buy into a “sure thing” and then destroyed it, taking them down. The key point is that Franscisco was the source of the “Going Galt” philosophy. He was public while Galt himself (who destroyed his invention) stayed in Colorado.
