Former Latin geeks will remember ... All Gaul is divided in three parts. ...
I also see a (mostly) peaceful split. It's time to go our separate ways.
In any relationship, you fight to make it work ... and at some point you say "well, it's all been laid out on the table honestly, and we just don't see the world the same way"
For once, we could just agree to disagree, no need to live with each other's choices, no need to be angry.
But we would also need a strong anti-immigration policy addressing those in the other US, because within 3 years, they'd be climbing over our fences trash-picking our yards and bank accounts. Strict anti-anti-gun-control laws will be helpful at that point. And I did mean "anti" twice.
Are you really so naive?
A split of red states and blue states means that the blue states don't get the money they need/want to remain blue states.
They may hate, mock, insult and malign the red states, but they (the blue states) know damn well who funds their blueness. And they will never, EVER peacefully give it up!
This has me thinking of a line from my favorite book, Walden. He wasn’t talking about something different but it fits here if the new republic of Texas was to allow immigration from the blue countries.
“They would have to be passed through a powerful press first, to squeeze their old notions out of them, so that they would not soon get upon their legs again; and then there would be some one in the company with a maggot in his head, hatched from an egg deposited there nobody knows when, for not even fire kills these things, and you would have lost your labor.”
Eventually the same old ideas of the welfare state and egalitarianism would infect the new country but it would be long after we are all dead and probably our children.
