I stand by statement: Romney sucked as a candidate. Period. We all knew it, and that’s why every Conservative here fought him tooth and nail during the primary. For crying out loud, he didn’t even win his home state, nor did he even have a chance to do so.
I don’t play the “candidate x would have done better” game because it’s pointless. There’s no way to really know. But if we refuse to learn from our mistakes, we’ll keep making them. It’s that simple. Our big mistake was letting another limp-wristed RINO carry the banner. It’s a sure fire loser. Bush I, Dole, McCain, and Romney and others like them are simply not going to carry us across the finish line.
That’s because “us” is conservatives. We cannot expect the GOP to field a conservative candidate. The blame lies not just with party leadership but also with the rank and file. Too many of them are just not conservatives. The majority of the GOP was quite content to run Romney. As long as Conservatives remain in the Republican Party they will continue to be disappointed. It is way past time for a Conservative Party. Voting for a Conservative and losing would be preferable to losing with a Republican or just staying home.
