I don’t get it. What’s the joke?
In The Screwtape Letters and other places, the great Christian apologist C.S. Lewis wrote about the innocent, healthy humor of people who love each other and are full of simple joy. They say and do things that aren't objectively funny, and may even seem stupid or incomprehensible to others, but everyone is lifted up into more happiness anyway. It's a godly spirit of fun. I think that's what this kind of family-and-friends silliness on the Romney plane is: the love/peace/joy lighthearted release into good silliness after long labor.
