It is not uncommon at all. I remember when one such was killed because he threatened someone with a gun. the someone turned out to be the guy threatening suicide.

Never call the police to “help” a disturbed family member.

Or for almost any other reason. I can think of some rare and convoluted situations in which it would still be better to call police butI have to think ưp complicated "what if" scenarios to come up with them.

Cops aren’t supposed to shoot suicidal teenagers in their own home. That’s what one would call “common sense.”

“Panicked, she called the police to come and talk him down”

What an idiot. She thinks the police can talk to her son better than she can? She thinks the police are interested in protecting and serving the public? She thinks the police are going to risk their own lives dealing with a 16 year old with a gun?

She set them up for some afternoon target practice.

I hope she can live with what she did.

I hope this episode cured her of her ignorance.

Yet another example of the police making a bad situation worse.

Whew! I am so relieved that the police were able to prevent that troubled young man from committing suicide!

Well done, officers! We sure are lucky to have the police around to respond so calmly and thoughtfully in such hazardous situations!

After all, preventing the suicide at all costs was the paramount goal, and, by golly, the police sure did that! Surely this heroic police sniper merits a commendation for preventing this troubled young man's suicide!

Yeah...but Eagle Watch is a swim, tennis, golf community. Average price of homes listed For Sale right now is 200 large.

Did you read the article or doesn’t it even matter why the cop shot the kid?

Most cops will support other cops no matter what they do.

“$200k” isn’t all that “large” in ATL. The lower you go below that, the more you get into neighborhoods/areas that you’d rather not live in. For new construction in the metro area (outside the I-285 perimeter), $200k is all too average. It shouldn’t be (because in my opinion the homes are overpriced for what you get), but it is.

Humor may be inappropriate here.

But when i read the first paragraph I flashed back to the sheriff in Blazing Saddles and to OJ Simpson, both of whom took themselves hostage.

Shooting the hostage IS one way to end such standoffs.

Bad shot. The kid claimed to be suicidal. That’s a kid who needs help so he can grow up to become a lawabiding conservative member of society.

Shooting the kid ensured he would be a democrat voter for life.

Why are you applauding the government employees’ decision to add another Obama voter to the rolls?

She is no different from millions of other mothers in this country.

There are Freeper mothers here who would likely have done the same thing, if one of their own children was suicidal.

The fault lies with the government employees for committing murder, not with the mother for naively supposing they would help her talk her son down.

Don’t blame the innocent for being trusting. Blame the criminals who take advantage of innocence.

It wasn’t murder. It was suicide by cop. She provided the cops. She apparently thought they could, or would, talk to her son better than she could. What kind of horrible mother thinks the police can talk to her son better than she can?

What kind of person blames a grieving mother as opposed to the government employee who murdered the boy and gave Obama one more vote?

Why are you trying to absolve the government employees of the *choice* he made to end the boy’s life, the same government employees who *themselves* send out the message that they *must* be called in cases like this to ‘help’ others?

Murder. Addition of another Obama voter to the rolls.

Thanks to our friendly neighborhood government employees who FAILED in their objective to talk down a suicidal teenager.

Every time you defend this, remember what you are defending: another vote for Obama.
