Eight O'Clock whole bean coffee has been my mainstay for years. Lately, it has been horrible. I can hardly drink it any more. Wonder why it's gotten so awful. Other family members have concurred.
I'm looking for recommendations on some other brands to try that would be similar to what Eight O'Clock used to be in a similar price range.
I'm not extremely picky but since I usually only have one cup of coffee per day, I would like it to be very good.
I live in a rural area so don't have the luxury of bopping into a gourmet coffee shop on a regular basis, unfortunately.
Thanks for your input.
Start roasting your own. I did, and never looked back. Try:

If you only drink one cup I’d recommend a Keurig. It lets you get a variety of coffees, is easy and less wasteful.
8 O’clock has become a cut rate brand of coffee so I’ve quit buying it.
Depending on your location I might suggest “Community Coffee”. My preference is the Breakfast Blend. You can order it online also. http://www.communitycoffee.com/
We are into Caribou Coffee here, but I don’t know if you can get it where you are. It’s in our local grocery stores.

Sells locally here, not sure how far their reach is so you may have to order online. Looks like their 2lb bags are where the best deal is, around $14.
Cafe Duran from Panama. . .

One problem: seasonal availability. When it’s sold for the year, that’s it. . .
So did I! Home roasting is far better than anything you could ever buy.
I, too, would recommend buying Green Coffee Beans, roasting them, grinding them, and brewing your cup of coffee within the same hour. Best cup of coffee I’ve ever had in my life.
Anybody use Kicking Horse?
Anything you can get at Jean’s Beans. Seattle’s Best is very good but they got bought by Star Bucks and I only see them at Subway sandwich shops. Maybe they sell the bean bags.
One additional note about “Community Coffee”. Purchase 4 bags of their coffee and they will match your purchase by sending 4 bags to any APO or FPO address... http://www.communitycoffee.com/AboutUs/MilitaryMatch.aspx
I order a great Sumatra dark bean from Agapao Coffee and Tea out of Santa Fe, NM. It comes fresh from the roaster and has a balanced flavor with very little or no bitterness. (I brew a strong pot). Best dark roast I’ve every had.
If you ever eat at Zia’s (by the rail yard/REI)this is the coffee they use and it’s how a friend and I found it. We stayed an extra hour just drinking the coffee.
I should be getting in 24 bags anytime now to replenish my (and others)supply.
Enjoy

Costco coffee beans. I like the French Roast. They roast these themselves.
If you only drink a cup a day, I’ll go along with driftdiver and say get a Keurig. Very good cup of coffee & very convenient, plus you get the option of variety if you choose.
