I read something today that you, as an historian, will really appreciate.

It is in Mark Helprin’s latest novel, set in NYC post WWII. The protagonist is recalling how in the final months the Americans were moving through Germany, quite literally taking over the country. They would go into restaurants, pay in dollars and the owners would very gladly and eagerly take the dollars. He noted that at that point, they truly knew they had won.

The Romney campaign sort of feels like that now to me. They haven’t truly “won” yet...but they are taking the land, moving inexorably across the map. They are winning, and they are going to win (and we are going to win with them).

In any event...thought you’d sort of appreciate that. Obviously Helprin is much more eloquent, but hopefully the point is clear enough.....

Very interesting. I thought you were going to relate the story of how the Brits infiltrated our polling organizations to rig polls to get us into the war in Europe.
