My chemistry professor in college dipped a rose into a thermos of LN and them smacked it on the table. It shattered into a million pieces.

didnt read the article but maybe it was more like a pice of dry ice in a “specialty drink” and she swallowed the dry ice, maybe.
Cause she would have been in intense pain just as LN hit her lips.

Some people seem to be blaming the teenage girl for this incident, but again, why would a bar serve a drink like this?
When I walk into a bar and order a drink, I assume that the bartender will hand me something that is fit for human consumption - with the possible exception of certain bars in Thailand.

"Oh yeah. Teenagers often do stupid things"-Like listen to idiot college indoctrinators who tell them to vote for Obama

——The dangers of dry ice are mild compared to liquid nitrogen——
Yup.... Where I work we use dry ice to ship temperature sensitive items....
And the OSHA safety regs are followed to the letter....
Yes, the limit on human stupidity does seem endless...

Last month the bar posted a picture on its Facebook page of a cocktail which contained liquid nitrogen called the Pornstar Martini.
Sold for £8.95 with a shot of champagne, the bar called it amazing.

100% agree with this.
Maybe it’s just as an American, but when I order a drink I presume it is drinkable.

You had all those resources, and you didn’t even make a small nuke??

Sold for £8.95 with a shot of champagne, the bar called it amazing. Well that £8.95 cocktail will probably end up costing the bar millions and the lawyers involved will consider that cocktail amazing as well.

Maybe she thought it would raise her eyebrows better than botox?

£8.95 = $14.44 at time of writing. If prison time doesn’t ensue for bar owners on top of whatever punitive damages it’ll cost the bar in terms of money, then things have really gone wrong over there.

I used to use liquid N
2 in the lab for flash-freezing microbial suspensions, and sometimes other things like protein extracts which were very unstable at room temperature. I would freeze the tubes containing my samples by dipping them in the liquid N
2 until the boiling would stop. (Liquid N
2 boils at a very low temperature.) Even though I didn't touch the liquid, the tips of my latex gloves would freeze and get quite stiff. Sometimes the liquid N
2 would spill on the floor, which was kind of cool, since before it evaporates, it rolls around and picks up dust.
It's fun to play with, but I can't imagine ever drinking the stuff. Even regular ice is too cold for me to ingest.

The bar actually served this drink? Truly criminal. And if they’re advertising it, why didn’t an adult speak up?

Yeah, my father was a physicist, took us to his lab once, froze a piece of rubber tubing in the liquid nitrogen and smashed it - it’s just insane to use it in bar drinks.
I HAVE put dry ice in drinks - a little chip to chill and carbonate it but I didn’t put the dry ice in my mouth and there is a difference of 120 deg C after all...

I did a fair number of dumb things at the age of 18 but I didn’t even know anyone this dumb. I knew an old drunk that drank brake fluid once but he had 60 years to pickle his brain. Good luck to her.
