Please define “shenanigans.”
Facebood, everyone. Kathleen and I fell asleep. Now I’m behind on my to-do list, so toodle-oo to everyone again.
: )
Yikes!

Yet again, some eggheads muscling in on sci-fi turf.
They know not what they may unleash!
My trip to Walmart was something else again. I got to Jack-In-the-Box, and decided to see what they had in new antenna balls and when I went to pay for them, I couldn’t find the card.
So I walked all the way back home, thinking I had left it on the desk when I was trying to place an order for a UPS pick-up, so I can finally send my son his cannonball.
The card was nowhere on my desk. So I looked in my wallet again, and there it was. It had been there all along. Upside down, backwards, and in the pocket below the one I usually keep it in.
So I hiked back down to Walmart, upset that I had wasted an entire hour. UGH!
It seems impossible to get out of there for under $100 any more. :o([
You're a lifesaver!
I'd been stumped on what to get The Spousal Unit for Christmas.
Well, see, my son found it about three feet underground when we lived in Newark CA, right at the south end of the San Francisco Bay. It has a couple of flat spots on it, and it weighs 16 pounds.
It could be considered a shot put, but for the location it was found, and the flat spots. It has moved everywhere with us since then, and he just kept forgetting to take it when he visited. So it has served as a door stop for me. I’m tired of packing it around. It’s his turn!
LOL! As a favor to the UPS man, I marked the little box “HEAVY.” It’s the least I could do. Now that it’s in a box, I have a hard time getting it up off the floor. :o]
I was going to try and take it with me, but with my luck, it would have been confiscated. So I opted to spend a little money and send it to him. I should have done it years ago.
I have never mailed a cannonball. To the best of my knowledge, I’ve never *moved* a cannonball, either. I think I would have left it for the new tenants long, long ago.
Technically, it wasn’t mine to leave, since my son found it. I was just the caretaker. No more. I’m on strike.
Nor have I.
I use the more traditional method of rolling a cannonball to its intended recipient after making exacting calculations.
When great distances are involved and there are intervening cities, trees, or sleeping ocelots, you have to get just the right spin on the cannonball to get a perfect break.
Sort of like picking up a 7-10 split.
I’m sure it helps if one is really good at math.
According to my mother (and I agree), a caretaker can set a “come and get it” deadline, after which the owner-of-record has agreed that he no longer cares about the disposition of the item. When I think of all the times you’ve moved ... carrying a cannonball!
I could never pick up a 7-10 split, so I shipped the cannonball. ;o]
How are you feeling these days? Are you healing well? Slowly, of course, but how are you doing?
In some places, the cannonball has been an indispensible door stop! LOL!
It’s probably the only thing outside of the family oil paintings, that has been with me constantly, no matter what.
Coffee-Marinated Bison Short Ribs
Marinade:
4 cups water
3 cups chilled strong brewed coffee
1/2 cup coarse kosher salt
3 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons (packed) dark brown sugar
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary
2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 cups ice cubes
4 pounds bison (often labeled buffalo) short ribs, cut between ribs to separate
Short Ribs:
1/4 cup chopped bacon (about 1 1/2 ounces)
2 cups chopped onions
1/2 cup chopped shallots
6 garlic cloves, chopped
1 small jalapeño chile, seeded, chopped
1 cup strong brewed coffee
1 cup low-salt chicken broth
1/4 cup chili sauce (such as Heinz) or ketchup
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
For marinade:
Stir 4 cups water, coffee, 1/2 cup coarse salt, and sugar in large bowl until salt and sugar dissolve. Add syrup and next 3 ingredients; stir until ice melts. Add ribs. Place plate atop ribs to keep submerged. Cover and chill 4 to 6 hours. Drain ribs; discard marinade.
DO AHEAD: Drained ribs can be made 2 days ahead. Cover and chill.
For short ribs:
Preheat oven to 325°F. Sauté bacon in heavy large wide ovenproof pot over medium heat until beginning to brown. Using slotted spoon, transfer bacon to plate. Increase heat to medium-high. Sprinkle ribs with salt and pepper. Working in batches, cook ribs until browned on all sides, about 7 minutes per batch. Transfer to large plate. Add onions, shallots, garlic, and jalapeño to pot. Reduce heat to medium, cover, and cook until vegetables are soft, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes. Add coffee and broth; stir, scraping up browned bits. Add chili sauce and all remaining ingredients; bring to boil. Add bacon and ribs, cover, and transfer to oven. Braise until meat is tender, about 2 hours 15 minutes.
DO AHEAD: Can be made 2 days ahead. Cool slightly. Chill uncovered until cold, then cover and keep chilled. Rewarm in 325°F oven until heated through, about 20 minutes, before continuing.
Transfer ribs to plate; tent with foil to keep warm. Spoon fat from surface of sauce. Boil sauce until reduced to 2 cups, about 5 minutes. Pour sauce over ribs.
Awesome!
I sense a truly bad idea!
I can’t help but feel somewhat responsible!
I found this in Walmart this morning, and for all of you Hobbits and Hobbit-Lovers, go get it! Two posters inside!
