read more books, even if you have to read some of them more than once.

I have to read a lot of posts more than once, lol! Facebood, y'all!

When you explain things, it always turns out better. This place is so packed w/supersmart people, I’m just going to lurk for a while. (((hugs)))

I was my only editor, so I had to read my own books many times each.

I think I’ve finally figured out what I was trying to say.

You once said that you edit yourself as you go along, and that sounded like you edit yourself once. Your writing is so coherent and cohesive that that thought is very humbling to the rest of us. (Maybe some of the rest of us—this thread is jam-packed with gifted people who express themselves beautifully, effectively and funnily [word?].) LOYL.

Oh, don’t get too overawed on Bob ... he’s not all that great with semicolons.

I edit myself until I stop finding errors. That doesn’t mean there are none, it just means that I don’t see any.

And the erroneous use or failure to use semicolons, of course.

(Anyone other than me notice that the word “use” in the above sentence has two different pronunciations, even in that sentence?)

So many words are a noun and a verb: I reject those rejects! What do you mean you object to my direct object?

Yep: use and uze. We require a fleet of new words for this language.

Yah...Bob has even been known to spell a word wrong, and once in a while, he has even been wrong with his trivia answers.

Gollybobhowdy! That all just makes the rest of us feel so doggone GOOD! I mean, we always feel we are in the Presence of Greatness, and then Bob misses a semi-colon or adds a comma when it isn’t necessary, and we realize: HE’S ONE OF US!!! LOL!

Isn’t that supposed to be, “As you wish....?”

Oh. Wait. This isn’t The Princess Bride, is it? My bad. ;o]

(Thanks, Moose!)

If a person REALLY needs to edit something s/he is writing, all s/he has to do is post it here, and there will be so many editors, volunteering their services that no error would DARE stay in print! LOL!

English (American or Original) is one of the most complex languages in the world to learn. Especially the written language.

Although American English and British English are similar, there are pronunciations, spellings, and usages that can confuse even the most avid student.

And then there are the dialects and idioms. I could write a book! :o])

(NOT!)

The linguistic differences just amongst the users of this site are amazing and sometimes perplexing.

The best thing about The Undead Thread, which is where we are, is that if you are in doubt, just ask. We have all been in odd situations, and have all been exposed to uncomfortable or unusual phrases or turns of speech. The great thing is that we are willing to pass on what we know.

I can’t speak for the other threads, but the UT is made up of “just folks.” And you are a part of us, like it or not! So if you are not sure about something, ask. You can ask on open thread, pinging those you know, or in FReepmail to just a few people, privately. On open thread, you may get responses for days!

:o]
