I am retiring tomorrow after 33 years(8/31/2012).
Your the only one being nasty....Why? What did you do to be productive in this USA?

It is, but that does not mean he did not pay his dues, and structured his retirement under the terms of a contract. I assume you believe in contracts.
I watched the sort of collapse you speak of happen in the Soviet Union / Russian Federation. I was there for part of it. I thought it was a wretched and wrong thing that military veterans and pensioners were cheated of their savings, even while the nomenklatura seized the real assets and even government gold reserves.
Look at the top of the pyramid if you want to see where the crap and chicanery is coming from. It is not the ‘little people’ at the base of the pyramid.
Anyway, as others have said, you really need some perspective and calm. Hope you get some. You will blow up otherwise.
All I can say now to you is you didn’t let me down.

Tomorrow and the next days are truly scary for my wife and I because of the unknown future we have. The conservatives are against us, the liberals use our money against us...
After tomorrow, no more union dues going to a political system I despise.

Congrats, I’ve been working for 45 years and have no plans to retire. I don’t fish but I do have grandkids who have become accustomed to beach vacations and roller coasters. Different strokes.
but since you brought up your govt pensions/health benefits, and you started this thread, I expect you expect a reaction..
..well mine is this...nice for you.
..nice that you worked for an employer who could never fire you, gave you lush vacations, family health insurance, and then the glorious pension in your 50's...maybe 40's...I don't know....
just be thankful that you didn't go into industry, or sales, or become a doctor, or a trucker, or even a farmer....all these workers for the most part have had their incomes just slashed, or their hours cut, or their pensions eliminated.(like my husband), and had health care premiums skyrocket..or they've had the cost of doing their business or profession basically put them under.....
but not the govt workers...
some of us are tainted about the govt worker core because they have NO IDEA what it means to lose a job,or benefits or pensions completely...
so enjoy.....in retrospect we should have all been govt workers....if bamey wins likes some freepers want, then we'll all be govt workers and that should make everyone happy.
My monthly retirement will be between $3600 and $4000 before taxes and my medical.
