Authorities are looking for whoever taped a turtle to several balloons and sent it flying in an Oceanside neighborhood.
The turtle was spotted duct-taped and dangling from balloons that were caught high up in a eucalyptus tree. Some neighbors next door saw what was going on and tried to help the turtle.
"We look up and there's green and blue balloons up there," said resident Chanelle Wright. "He was just swinging his arms trying to get out of it. Somebody had taped him to the balloons."
Wright told 10News, "I called the Humane Society to try to get the fire department out here, but it took about an hour for everybody to actually show up."
"We proceed by checking with everybody in the neighborhood and see if anybody saw anything, who might know who the owner of the turtle is," said Lt. Melyssa Jones, who is with the Humane Society.
If detectives can find out who taped the turtle to the balloons, they could face charges of animal abuse.

Ive spent countless hours over my life shooting turtles when they poke their heads up out of the water
“Frizzle Frazzle Frizzle Frome, time for this one to go home” ... “Mr Wizard
,
I recently witnessed a total of NINE rescue personnel arrive in response to a woman’s call to be taken to a hospital for an injured shoulder. NINE people, three of whom were paramedics + SIX FIREMEN. What a joke. I kept asking them “Do you really need all of these people and trucks? No wonder cities are going bankrupt.” There were not happy about me being there. LOL
Why is it no matter what story there is here on FR about animal cruelty, there MUST be at least on Freeper who tells a story about how shooting, trapping, cooking, skinning or otherwise dispatching said animal is part of the circle of life?
You will spend countless hours having your head held underwater in the afterlife. LOL!
Well said SpaceBar.
I agree with you. I love turtles and they are worthy of saving.
....and, there is something about turtles because they are SO vulnerable that calls all of us to help them when we can, whether helping them off the road or out of a tree!
Hard on the outside, soft on the inside; how I like my candybars and men!
“That’s high on the list of phrases I never thought I’d see.....”
Exactly one year ago today, there was an earthquake in Virginia.
Another phrase that I never thought I would see or hear.....
“Earthquake damaged Washington Monument.”
Probably some of the posters here giving the turtle abusers a pass would scream bloody murder if a cop shot a dog.
The idea is that they are all living creatures. I happen to be a reptile fan and to me this turtle is just as important as my dog or my cat are. Just because you don’t see value in the life of the animal doesn’t mean it’s OK to torture it.
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not an animal rights clown, but I don’t believe any living thing should become amusement for some stupid idiots fun time.
Anyone who did this to an animal would have no problem with doing the same to a human. This is the mentality that drives the pro-aborts.
Yes, Paul. I was counting to 10, waiting for (1) a post telling how to shoot a turtle and the best type of firearm to do it and (2) a turtle recipe. FReepers, pretty predictable on some things. Sorry to say, I was not disappointed. Some people need to show how little G-d’s creatures mean to them in order to feel like a man, I guess.
Touche.
I wonder how many babies were aborted in this country during that same time period.
I’m conflicted about this. While I agree that everyone involved over-reacted, I also understand that gratuitous animal cruelty is a symptom of deeper problems. I think the biggest malaise our society faces is a lack of empathy. From the perspective of a human who is aware of the risks and can make a choice in the matter I would say, “Hell yeah”, but we are dealing with critters who have no choice. I agree that a human life is worth more than that of an animal, but that is no excuse for inflicting distress for our personal amusement. With respect, FRiend, being pro-life extends to the fauna that the Almighty entrusted to our care.
