Rush? Is that you? ;)

Seriously, it’s not that anyone is becoming sanctimonious. The university didn’t do due, or even decent, diligence.

Again, what if proctor & gamble let some kind of flaw fester rather than fix their product when they noticed it? Do you get how many innocent people would be hurt? The stock falls. 401ks are hurt. Products are discontinued. Low level employees laid off. Etc.

When you are the head of an organization, the buck better stop with you, or everyone goes down.

. . . When you are the head of an organization, the buck better stop with you, or everyone goes down.

Certainly you are correct.

You haven’t even touched my main point. 88 members of the faculty of a major university can publicly call for “sentence first, trial afterward” for the students who are members of one of its athletic teams - when they are accused of an airtight conspiracy to cover up a blatant crime, by one person of dubious veracity, and when that “witness” was systematically fed information as to which members of the group had alibis and which did not, in order to avoid the inconvenience of having to pick the alleged perpetrators from among a group of people who were known to be innocent. Which, it was obvious, the “witness” had no ability to do.

A huge swath of the university’s faculty disgraces itself by manifesting extreme prejudice against that group of students, and organizing student-body demonstrations against them, in a blatant witch hunt - and the only result is the firing of the team’s coach and the disbanding of the team. The faculty members suffer not so much as a reprimand.

It is profoundly disgraceful that a football coach, or any other faculty member, should be guilty of acting on pedophilia. Those who knew about it had a bounden duty to protect children, no less than any other adult does. Full Stop. New Paragraph.

Exactly how much less of a duty does a member of the teaching faculty have to uphold a decent respect for truth, facts, and logic when students are being threatened with arbitrary arrest and a kangaroo court “trial”???

88 members of the faculty not only did not lead in reserving judgement in favor of waiting for the evidence, they rushed to the head of the gathering lynch mob, deliberately placing their names and their professorial prestige on the side of a rush to judgement when the facts scarcely even warranted sustained suspicion, and a full investigation led to a declaration that the alleged crime had never occurred.

Can an entire university be held to absolute, “it happened on his watch” accountability for what was done in secret to too many, but still a only a few, boys and covered up at the highest level - and another university be absolutely absolved for what was deliberately and openly done by a large swath of the faculty to compromise the future of 20 students - and no censure administered? That seems to be the position we are hearing taken by this accreditation committee.

Given the biblical injunction against harming children, I accept that the boys absolutely deserved far better from PSU. Everyone but a pedophile does. But the members of the Duke Lacrosse Team are people, too. And having scores of teachers openly cheerleading for evil without remorse and without even censure has to count for something in the comparison of the two cases. But we are told that the latter case is one for the three monkies seeing, hearing, and saying nothing.
