Neil Peart plays drums. Geddy Lee plays bass, keyboard, sample pedals and sings.
New Age drivel. The misunderstanding that “leading a good life” gets you into Heaven (or Nirvana or whatever) flies in the face of the teachings of Jesus Christ. He clearly understands Christianity at the same level that a wino understands a great zinfandel.
The point of drums is not to be the lead....
No, you dont.
Democrats: the panhandler party.
Obama: an aggressive obnoxious panhandler who demands charity and then complains you didn't give him enough.
Too many drugs for that boy.
While freedom in America has been a boon to the spread of the gospel, the truth is that Christ wouldn’t be a Republican. It is also true that the Bible condemns about 80% of the Democratic agenda.
thanks. I just really dig Kieth Emerson's sound.
And that led me to this, which was on the siderbar...
And no keyboard player throws knives better!
totally forgot about the knives.
I really, really, really am glad I read that.
Rush is and always will be my favorite band, but if there's one blind spot which Neil has shown me on more than one occasion, it is his breathtaking ignorance of both Christians and Christianity in general.
Neil has fallen into the same pathetic Marxist trap, of "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need" which is used to justify various forms of authoritarian collectivism in government by perverting core Christian concepts of charity, justice, and fairness.
Such ideals, when practiced voluntarily by a group of consenting, like-minded people, can be a very positive way of life, as is noted in the history of the first century Church.
However, when such ideals transform into coercion via the mechanism of the state, the programs and policies which flow from their implementation are some of the most counterproductive, misguided abominations you will ever see in government.
One problem with the notion of government forcing everybody to practice "Christian" virtue is that there will always be Ananias and Sapphira's to come along and game the system. It's also indisputable that the general effect of welfare programs is to produce a dependent class which grows ever larger, which is, of course, intrinsically unsustainable, and, in addition, highly counterproductive to the overall goal of increasing employment and reducing dependence on government.
Also, when you "force" someone to be virtuous, it's not really virtue at all, is it?
Christian charity does not have to function through the mechanism of government, and as thoughtful as Neil Peart is on many topics, he should be capable of recognizing that many of those who profess to be Christians do not subscribe to his breathtakingly limited concept of what Christian love is.
Hey Neil,,, and Jim Wallace too: you can love your neighbor and help the poor independent of the bloated, corrupt federal government.
Jesus probably wouldn't be a Democrat either. He'd probably be an independent.
Jesus would just say, “Leave me out of it.”
That’s all I need to hear. Guy himself is lost and trying to tell Christians what they need to do.
So many people out there today like this.
If you follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, you can only be a Republican. The democrats are for abortion, gay marriage, gays in the military, etc. You cannot be for that stuff and be a follower of Jesus Christ.
Intellectual mushiness, typical of many excellent artists and musicians. It won’t stop me from buying Rush’s music, but I hope Mr. Peart will take a close look at the Jesus of the Bible and realize how mistaken he is.
He wrote in one of his books that people send him copies of the Bible and say “I think this is what you are looking for”. He send it back saying “No Thanks”. He was not this jaded back in the 70s and 80s. But man, he really has gone Christopher Hitchens on us over the last 10 years.
I went to see ELP on their Black Moon tour - they were still REALLY good. I had my doubts as a tv show of a Greg Lake (with ASIA??) concert his singing was awful.
What amazed me was how when Emerson was jamming his knives into the keyboard, and then rocking and tossing the organ around - it was pretty close to the album. Not sure how something like that can be repeated.
I thought John Wetton sang for Asia.
Maybe that was UK.
I saw them once
