Liberty Valance,my fav. You just can’t beat John Wayne,Jimmy Stewart and Lee Marvin.Strother Martin is good in any movie.
I attempt to watch any movie or tv show with Strother Martin. I’m attempting to identify many of the great character actors who participated in hundreds of westerns and other flicks in the fifties and sixties. Martin was certainly in many. And always memorable.
One of the ten best Western movies of all time.
“The Searchers” was an Academy award performance by the Duke.

Jimmy Stewart was too old for the part, but the supporting cast was incredible. Andy Devine was great. Lee Marvin was incredible. Strother Martin again proved he was one of the greatest character actors of the 1960s and 70s. Lee Van Cleef was still the best 60’s villain after Bruce Dern. And John Wayne....Damn it, he was John Wayne!
Lee Van Cleef, Lee Marvin, John Wayne, and Jimmy Stewart...now those were REAL MEN, not like today's stars who have to fellate their producers to get a movie role. About the only star who I can even imagine being man enough to get a role like this is Russell Crowe, and he's from New Zealand.
John Wayne considered “Red River” as his best film. If you ever look at some of the famous pictures of Wayne, he wears a belt buckle with the Red River “D” brand on it.
I have also read that he used the same brand on his own ranch.

Well, since he played the barkeep in numerous “Gunsmoke” episodes, quite a few I’d guess.

Watched this movie in a drive-in in 1966 in Columbus, GA with my future wife, sitting in a maroon 1964 Mustang.
