Canadian head coach John Herdman is asking for empathy ahead of the Olympic women’s soccer bronze medal match.
Not from Canada, a country that rose up in a rage usually reserved for hockey when it felt it’s team was wronged by a Norwegian referee, but from FIFA, the imperious governing body of world soccer, which announced Tuesday afternoon that it is “analysing incidents that occurred after the conclusion,” of Canada’s controversial 4-3 loss to the U.S. on Monday in a semi-final match in Manchester. The unspoken threat of suspension or fine thus hung over the team Tuesday as it attempted to regroup ahead of Thursday’s bronze medal match against France.

You obviously don’t remember the gnashing of teeth, tearing of clothes, and crocodile tears that Americans went through when they felt they were screwed in Olympic basketball a few years ago. The Canadian team should be happy that the refs didn’t call other fouls like ... oh ... that stomp on the head of a player that was on the ground ... among others.
The Men's team isn't there .... didn't qualify.
It might help if you think of soccer as somewhat of a chess match. There's a lot of strategy as opposed to a lot of scoring. It's interesting to watch the teams form attacks while the opposite team puts together its defense while putting together a counter strike.

Refs miss calls. It happens. Bottom line ... this was a classic match. Well played on both sides of the ball. Someone had to lose. Now get over it and go beat the French and take home a well earned bronze.
Outside of the US Men’s Swimmers, the US men have faired very poorly in these games, compared to the women.
You can lay that firmly on Title IX.
Complaining about this call is ridiculous. When the goon Tancredi stomped on the American’s head, she should have been red carded and Canada down a person the rest of the way.

Oh, and btw, it’s too bad that Abby Wambach is so insecure that she felt that she had to work over the referee in order for the Americans to have a chance in this game.
