The reason the TV ratings are up is the same reason they were up in 1980. Idiot in the White House. Americans want to feel good again.
I assume by 1980 you mean the winter games since the 1980 summer games were boycotted by a decision made by the idiot in the White House. Apart from the miracle on ice there was very little to feel good about in 1980. Oh and the eventual election result.
