Fascinating pictures. Interesting that you have to link to a foreign press outlet to see them.
It is clear to see how people got sick and infected so easily in that heat, in a dirty, swampy environment. Must have smelled great with those horses serving up fresh horsecakes regularly right there where the soldiers are walking around.

I’ve read about the Chain Bridge but have never seen a picture of it. The Cabin John Bridge is now called the Union Arch Bridge.
It is fascinating to look up these locations on Google Earth for today’s view.
Great pictures. Love the paramedics there with their hacksaws in hand ready to treat the wounded.
